The 8th China-Japan Joint Symposium on Metal Cluster Compounds(8th CJSMCC), which is sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)and the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), and jointly hosted by Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter，State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, and College of Chemistry and Material Science, Northwest University, was held successfully in Xi’an from August 10 to 14, 2010. More than 80 backbone scholars from nearly 40 institutions of higher learning at home and abroad took part in the symposium including 22 Japanese professors such as Prof. Kazuyuki Tatsumi from Nagoya University, Prof. Susumu Kitagawa and Prof. Hiroshi Kitagawa from Kyoto University, Prof. Hiroshi Nishihara and Prof. Makoto Fujita from the University of Tokyo, and 56 Chinese professors such as Prof. Xintao Wu, Prof. Maochun Hong and Prof. Xiaoming Chen who are academicians of CAS and 27 winners of the Distinguished Youth Fund of the NSFC from Beijing University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University and some research institutes of CAS.
On the morning of August 11, Prof. Xintao Wu, Chairman of Chinese Local Organizing Committee, Prof. Xueguang Qiao, President of Northwest University, and Prof. Hiroki Nishihara on behalf of Japanese Local Organizing Committee, made the opening remarks showing warm-hearted hospitalities to all Chinese and Japanese participants. A total of 62 invited lectures, among which 22 were given by Japanese delegates and 40 by Chinese delegates, were carried out during the symposium. The chemists from China and Japan deepened their bilateral understanding and friendship while enjoying academic intercourse at the symposium.
At the closing ceremony of the symposium arranged on August 12, 2010, both Prof. Maochun Hong on behalf of the Chinese participants and Prof. Ken Sakai on behalf of the Japanese participants made summary speeches declaring that the 9th China-Japan Joint Symposium on Metal Cluster Compounds would be held in Fukuoka, Japan, in 2012.
