报告摘要

Materials degradation is one of the most technical challenges in the development of high performance and durable solid oxide cell (SOCs) technologies. In this seminar, I will critically review and update the latest development in the understanding of the materials degradation issues of components of SOCs with main emphasis on the oxygen bubble formation in the electrolyte, delamination of oxygen electrodes and degradation induced by contaminants. The combination of the Nano SIMS and high resolution EDS-STEM analysis indicates that there are significant amount of manganese, to a less extent, lanthanum in the grain boundaries of YSZ close to the LSM electrode most likely due to cation interdiffusion during the electrode sintering stage. The Mn/La rich grain boundaries could function as the electronic conducting path for the oxygen evolution reaction, causing the widening and coarsening of the grain boundaries and oxygen bubble formation. The fundamental reason for the fracturing and gas bubble formation within the grain boundaries of YSZ electrolytes near the oxygen electrode is discussed. Finally, the degradation due to the deposition and poisoning of contaminants such as Cr and B is discussed.
